Gianni Minervini, Executive Director
As a former swimmer, Gianni – born in Rome in 1966 – competed in three consecutive Olympics (1984, 1988, 1992). He won a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke at the 1986 World Championships in Madrid and a bronze medal in the same event at the 1991 World Championships in Perth. He also won a total of five bronze medals at European Championships (100m breaststroke: Strasbourg 1987, Athens 1991; 4x100m medley: Sofia 1985, Bonn 1989; 50m breaststroke: Gelsenkirchen 1991 Short Course).
After finishing his career as an athlete, in 1994 he joined Procter & Gamble where he held Domestic, Regional and Global roles on various product categories. He was the Associate Director of the organising committee of the 2009 FINA World Championships held in Rome. He has been with LEN since November 2015.
Marco Birri, Operational Manager
Born in Rome in 1958, Marco spent by now more than forty years in Water Polo as an athlete and coach at National and International level. With the Italian Swimming Federation he was also responsible for the relations with foreign countries and was member of the promoting committee for Roma09. In addition, Marco had interesting experiences as TV Water Polo technical commentator for RAI television.
University graduate of Biology he joined LEN from October 2005, as responsible of all Water Polo matters on European level. Now he is LEN’s Operational Manager, responsible for the preparations and running all major LEN Events.
Gergely Csurka, Media Manager
Started as a sportswriter at the age of 19 (born in Budapest in 1971) while studying at the Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest and went on as a professional journalist, then editor at various dailies and weeklies, author of several books on water polo.
In 2004 he became the Press Officer of the Hungarian Swimming Association, he also worked as the Press Attache of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (2005-2011) and worked for the Olympic News Service in London 2012. Have been attending all editions of the LEN European Championships since 1993, the FINA World Championships since 1994 and was present at each edition of the Olympic Games in various roles since 1996. Worked as a Media Director at four European Swimming Championships (2006, 2007, 2010, 2012), and was senior adviser of the LOC and overlooked the media operations at the 2017 FINA World Championships. Since 2013 he has been with LEN as an external Press Officer, he joined the staff in late 2017 as Media Manager.
